What's the Story?
ONMYOJI follows the story of the famous onmyoji -- a medium or spiritual practitioner who serves the Japanese imperial court as a specialist in supernatural matters -- Abe Seimei (voiced in English by Howard Wang). He's befriended by Hiromasa (Greg Chun) a pure-hearted but somewhat naïve nobleman who seeks out Seimei's help in defending the city from malicious supernatural forces. Together the duo takes on demons and monsters as they uncover a hidden plot that puts the emperor's life in danger.
Is It Any Good?
Fans of folklore may enjoy this supernatural anime series that explores some interesting myths and ideas. Onmyoji is an anime that seems rooted in Japanese culture and folklore and the practices of onmyoji (a spiritual practitioner). While the traditional beliefs and myths may be embellished for entertainment, they're still fun to see. Demons and enemies are defeated in interesting ways, often being hindered by past events that turned them into monsters. Characters must find ways to help them find peace by overcoming these events.
