The somewhat predictable celebrity-themed series addresses how the Kardashian family made themselves a household brand by creating a fantasy narrative about their lives on unscripted television. A significant part of the story focuses on Kris Jenner, who's characterized by all as a strong and entrepreneurial woman who understands how to (re)create and maximize one's celebrity status for profit. However, outside of Caitlyn Jenner, neither Kris Jenner nor immediate members of the family participate in the production, and it relies on audio recordings of mainly Kris and Kim Kardashian talking about specific life experiences as a way of including their point of view. It also relies mostly on men from the entertainment industry for insights about the Kardashians; their comments reveal a satisfaction with the way they continue to reinforce patriarchal values within popular entertainment and influencer culture.

Yet House of Kardashian still manages to gloss over some of the family's more sensational controversies. Sure, it tosses in a few eyebrow-raising details for entertainment's sake, but they're delivered in a cohesive and purposeful storytelling style rather than simple tabloid fodder. Not everyone will care for this behind-the-scenes look at how the Kardashian brand came to be, but franchise fans will find it worth the watch.
