What's the Story?
In BLOOD COAST, a prisoner is being transported on a dark, rainy day to a funeral. The guards accompanying surround him at the grave of a young boy. The prisoner's face collapses in anguish when suddenly, a sniper fires from behind a hedge, killing the main guard and allowing the prisoner to grab a weapon. Chaos ensues, and the prisoner hops into a black van, speeding off with his cohorts. Soon, a squad of detectives are investigating new drug cartel activity. Is the mastermind behind it the escaped convict? Will justice for the fallen officers come to pass?
Is It Any Good?
Set in the gorgeous, seedy port town of Marseilles, France, this crime drama brings cruel drug kingpins into confrontation with brooding, determined cops. Blood Coast doesn't skimp on graphic violence, but there's an elegance to the pacing that casts a ferocious realism over this beautifully produced show.
Veteran director Olivier Marchal, who was once a police officer himself, knows how to tickle the soft underbelly of crime rings. Highly entertaining, this well-dubbed French show isn't for kids, but it's a decent pick for adults and older teens who enjoy crime dramas with soul.
